These pictures depict the good rapport Sri. Devarajan Master had with Madhurima. All though he pre-occupied with various activities in Chennai, he found time to be with us on many occasions such as these to nurture Madhurima. His association with Madhurima will always be cherished by its members.

Paravoor Govindan Devarajan, popularly known as G. Devarajan or Devarajan master, is a Malayalam music composer. Devarajan master has scored music for more than three hundred Malayalam films, many dramas, twenty Tamil and four Kannada movies. Many of his compositions remain ever green classics in Malayalam. Besides, his music in the Tamil film 'Annai Velankanni' has received many accolades. Devarajan received Kerala Government's Best Music Director award for five times, among other honours.

Born at Paravur, near Kollam in Kerala, Devarajan rendered his first classical concert at the age of 18. He was soon attracted to the Communist movement and decided to spend his creative energy for popular music by joining the once famous drama troupe of Kerala, the Kerala People's Arts Club (KPAC). His first work which brought him to limelight was the drama song Ponnarivaal ambiliye kanneriyunnoole. KPAC and its members had a distinctive leaning towards the communist ideology, and their dramas did play a role in spreading the ideology among the Keralite masses. Through his compositions, Devarajan could cast an indelible imprint in the theatre, especially after the famous K.P.A.C drama Ningalenne Communistaakki written by Thoppil Bhaasi in 1952.

Since his debut in the film `Kaalam Marunnu’ in 1955, Devarajan went on to traverse a whole gamut of tunes that have turned immortal. His genius as a composer lay in his ability to blend harmoniously the best from folk, Carnatic, Hindustani and traditional music. Devarajan was one of those rare musicians who never desired to go on a beaten track. He preferred to take a different route every time he set out to tune songs. There is perhaps no one who has created songs of such astounding variety as Devarajan. And all this began at a time when there was no effective promotion of talent, nor all those machineries for propagating talent. He had won Kerala State Award for Best Music Director 5 times.

A detailed review of the film career of Sri. DevarajanMaster is available in Wikipedia.

Devarajan master died on March 14, 2006 in Chennai, at the age of 79. He was cremated with state honours in Paravoor.
